Grow & Arrange Cut Flowers with Sarah Raven & Josie Lewis

Tuesday 14th October 2025 10:30am - 3:30pm

Sarah loves being able to pick armfuls of flowers for a good nine months and in the morning will give you the hard facts on how to succeed with growing the very best and most productive plants. It’s all about how to make the most of whatever space you have, little or large. She will teach you all you need to know for wonderful vases and efficient production.

After a short break in the morning Sarah will demonstrate conditioning and arranging the flowers you grow, using flowers picked and conditioned at Perch Hill. She’ll also cover techniques to make all your cut flowers last well in the vase.

In the afternoon Josie, Head Gardener at Perch Hill, will demonstrate how to create a beautiful Paper White bulb wedding cake, as well as showing how to take cuttings, bulb lasagnes and pot structures.

Through the day we will also give you practical advice on seed sowing and propagation, soil conditioning, mulching, staking and all the most important things we have found to help us succeed with nine month round flower production.

This course is taught by Sarah and Josie. It is a lecture with slides format, with practical demonstrations too. You will get a course hand-out covering all the information Sarah teaches on the day.

A Year Full of Pots with Sarah Raven

Wednesday 15th October 2025 10:30am - 3:30pm

Sarah’s most recent book, A Year Full of Pots, is all about containers at Perch Hill of which there are currently over 500, huge, large and small. Together with Josie, head gardener at Perch Hill, she tests and trials a great range of container plants year on year and has done now for 15 years.

Sarah starts by taking you through her colour theory, moving onto recipes for pots for all times of year using her favourite container plant choices. Whether it’s with tulips and wallflowers in spring, or dahlias, annuals and perennials for summer and autumn, the day is jam-packed with ideas for pots for any site and situation, grand or small, sun or shade. You’ll get it all. In the afternoon, Josie and the Perch Hill gardeners will give demonstrations including bulb lasagnes, taking cuttings, pot structures and ‘Paper White’ tiered wedding cake.

This course is taught by Sarah as well as Josie and the Perch Hill gardeners. It is a lecture with slides format, with practical demonstrations too. You will get a course handout covering all the information Sarah teaches on the day. Autumn course with practical advice, design tips and colour guidance to inspire you to create magnificent and brim full pots.

The day lasts from 10:30am until 3:30pm, including tea/coffee on arrival, (from 10am for a 10:30am prompt start), a morning tea/coffee break and a 2 course lunch using recipes from Sarah’s cookbooks.

The Kaleidoscope Garden with Sarah Raven

Thursday 16th October 2025 10:30am - 2:30pm

Sarah and the team in the Perch Hill garden work with 4 garden palettes which between them include every colour, but keep them mainly separate to create harmonious and beautiful combinations wherever you look.

In this morning with Sarah she will take you through what colours make up each of the four palettes and which are the best possible plants to give you your chosen palette right through the growing year. Based on four different garden areas at Perch Hill, Sarah will explain which hold the colour baton in a perfect flower succession relay race so your garden never needs to take a colour and flower drip from March until November.

Colour makes the garden sing, learn how to create the perfect colour palette for your garden as Sarah shares her beautiful combinations. The day lasts from 10:30am until 2:30pm, including tea/coffee on arrival, (from 10am for a 10:30am prompt start), a morning tea/coffee break and a 2 course lunch using recipes from Sarah’s cookbooks
