Growing and Arranging Cut Flowers with Sarah Raven
Tuesday 14th October 2025 10:30am - 3:30pm
As an update on her classic The Cutting Garden (published 30 years Ago!) Sarah has just finished writing A Year Full of Cut Flowers (out next spring) including all she’s learnt on growing, conditioning and arranging cut flowers for your house everyday.
In this jam-packed one day course Sarah will cover which plants to grow - and how to give you the greatest beauty and abundance in the garden and house from March until November. In the afternoon, she’ll teach you all you need to know about conditioning cut flowers to make them last as long as possible as well as showing you quick, simple, stylish and beautiful ways of arranging what you’ve grown. We’ll end the day with Josie and the Perch Hill gardeners demonstrating how to make a bulb lasagne in a border and pot to give you beautiful abundance all through next spring.
This course is taught by Sarah as well as Josie and the Perch Hill gardeners. It is a lecture with slides format, with practical demonstrations too. Sarah’s most recent book, A Year Full of Pots, is all about containers at Perch Hill of which there are currently over 500, huge, large and small. Together with Josie, head gardener at Perch Hill, she tests and trials a great range of container plants year on year and has done now for 15 years.
Sarah starts by taking you through her colour theory, moving onto recipes for pots for all times of year using her favourite container plant choices. Whether it’s with tulips and wallflowers in spring, or dahlias, annuals and perennials for summer and autumn, the day is jam-packed with ideas for pots for any site and situation, grand or small, sun or shade. You’ll get it all. In the afternoon, Josie and the Perch Hill gardeners will give demonstrations including bulb lasagnes, taking cuttings, pot structures and ‘Paper White’ tiered wedding cake.

The Kaleidoscope Garden with Sarah Raven
Friday 17th October 2025 10:30am - 2:30pm
Sarah and the team in the Perch Hill garden work with 4 garden palettes which between them include every colour, but keep them mainly separate to create harmonious and beautiful combinations wherever you look.
In this morning with Sarah she will take you through what colours make up each of the four palettes and which are the best possible plants to give you your chosen palette right through the growing year. Based on four different garden areas at Perch Hill, Sarah will explain which hold the colour baton in a perfect flower succession relay race so your garden never needs to take a colour and flower drip from March until November.
